Irish women: forced to leave
Every year, hundreds of people are forced to leave Ireland to access an abortion overseas. ASN is here to help.
Since the historic Repeal vote five years ago, we’ve funded at least 265 women who have been forced to leave Ireland for an abortion. We hear from someone in Ireland every three days.
There may be changes coming which would make abortion more accessible in some circumstances. But we don’t know when, and it won’t be soon enough for the women who need help now. Help us be there for Irish women who are forced to leave for abortion care.
How we help
Each person we helps needs something different. We are here to provide information, and to provide financial assistance to women and pregnant people who are forced to travel for an abortion.
We can help with arranging appointments, booking travel and accommodation, support with visas to travel, and we provide financial assistance where needed.
Irish clients are often facing multiple barriers to getting the abortion they seek. Our average grant to clients from Ireland is now more than €1000.
Nobody should be forced to travel to access a safe abortion. While Ireland’s laws remain, we will be here to help the women and pregnant people who are forced to leave. But we need your help to make sure we can help everyone. If you can, please donate today so we can be there for women and pregnant people forced to leave Ireland for abortion care.
