Currently in Andorra abortion is a crime in all cases. It is classified as such in the penal code Article 108; https://www.bopa.ad/bopa/017025/Pagines/3BE2E.aspx
Article 108 Consensual Abortion
- A person who performs an abortion on a consenting pregnant woman is subject to imprisonment of three months up to four years and disqualification from practicing any healthcare profession for a period of up to five years.
- A woman who performs an abortion on herself or gives consent to another person to perform an abortion is also subject to imprisonment.
- An attempt at the act previously described in the first part is also subject to imprisonment.
For this reason, in 2018, the network “Xarxa La Meri” was formed from 4 different groups across Andorra and Barcelona who work for women’s sexual and reproductive rights.
“Xarxa La Meri” is our response to the criminalisation and legal and social penalisation of abortion in Andorra. We have come together to offer feminist, self-directed solutions.
Within the network, we provide information about and support in accessing abortions across the border for women who live in Andorra in a dignified way.
We will accompany you all the way from the Meri Network in Catalonia to get either a surgical or medical abortion.
